History of the Mexican Blanket
The X-large Mexican Blanket is known as a Serape, which is somtimes spelled Sarape. It is also sometimes called a Saltillo blanket, named after the city in Mexico where some of the first blankets of this kind were produced. Originally intended for warmth, these blankets have been around for decades in Mexico and other parts of Latin America. Although many people disagree about the origin of the very first serape blankes, it is indisputable that these blankets have now become an iconic symbol of Mexico. The brightly colored blanket is often as recognizably Mexican as the Mexican flag or popular Mexican food such as the taco. The blanket, along with the cuisine, as become one of Mexico's greatest exported items.
What to do with a Mexican blanket
Although the most common use for the Mexican Serape Blanket is to use it as, you guessed it, a blanket, there are virtually an unlimited list of uses for these blankets. Perhaps one of the reasons that these blankes are so versatile is the multi-colored nature of the blanket makes it a perfect match for any color scheme or theme. Whether you are going with bright pinks and greens or more traditional red and blue, these blankets will fit right in with your decor. The make great bedspreads or couch covers, but can also be easily made into curtains or pillow case covers for a great Mexican or Latin themed room in your house, boat, RV, or office.
In addition to use in home decor, they can also be used for fiesta party decorations. Use it as a tablecloth or table runner on the bar for your next Mexican themed dinner party. Many Mexican restaurants also hang these blankets in a folded fan style on the wall for added decor.
These blankets can also come in handy for the car. Many old car enthusiasts use these to reupholster old or worn upholstery. They also make great throws for picnics or baseball games.
